On a machine running XP I installed a separate drive and installed Vista on that drive. The drive failed. Now, every reboot it tries to access the missing drive. How do I edit the boot? Do I need to fixmbr or fixboot in restore mode? Or is their a file I can edit. I know boot.ini is gone.

Change default boot?
If it is trying to find Vista, download VistaBoot Pro and use it to delete the dead entry from the boot options menu. When the entries are down to one the menu will no longer appear.
